Recording drives

A drive wasn’t recorded

Open Settings › Tracking in Wayledger. The Tracking check at the top says whether your next drive will be recorded and has a Fix button for anything that’s off. The most common causes:

  1. Location access isn’t set to Always, or Precise Location is off.
  2. Wayledger was swiped away in the app switcher. iOS won’t wake a force-quit app for drives until you open it again.
  3. Tracking is paused, or Location Services is off for the whole iPhone.

If Wayledger noticed you moved but didn’t record a drive, the Trips screen shows a Possible missed drive card. Tap Add drive to log it, or add any trip with + › Add trip manually.

How do I set location to “Always”?
  1. Open the Settings app and scroll down to Wayledger (or go to Settings › Apps › Wayledger).
  2. Tap Location.
  3. Choose Always and turn on Precise Location.

If you don’t see a Location row, open Wayledger and tap Allow in the red banner first — iOS only lists permissions an app has asked for.

Does Wayledger drain my battery?

While you’re parked, Wayledger uses iOS’s low-power location monitoring. GPS runs only while you’re likely driving and stops when the drive ends.

Why is the distance different from my map app?

Wayledger measures the route you actually drove, filtering out GPS noise. If a section had no signal (a tunnel or parking garage), the drive shows a signal gap; you choose whether to include the estimated distance for it. You can also set any drive’s distance yourself on its detail screen.

Work and Personal

Classifying drives

Drives that still need a decision appear on the Trips screen. Swipe right for Work, left for Personal — or tap Work or Personal in the notification after a drive. Classified drives move to Trips › Logged drives, where you can change them anytime.

Log drives automatically by working hours

In Settings › Working hours, choose your work days and hours. Drives that start during those hours are logged as Work; everything else is logged as Personal. Each automatic choice sends a notification with a one-tap switch, and you can change any drive later.

How is the mileage value calculated?

Each Work drive is valued at the rate you choose — the IRS business rate for the drive’s date, or your own rate per mile — and rounded to the cent, then the drives are added up. Wayledger estimates mileage value; it doesn’t give tax advice.

Reports

Creating and sending a report

Open Reports, choose a month, year or custom range, and export a PDF or CSV. Use the share button to email it from your own Mail app. To send it automatically each month, see Settings › Automatic monthly email.

Your data

Where is my data stored?

Only on your iPhone. Wayledger has no account and no servers; the developer can’t see your drives. Details are in the Privacy Policy.

Backing up or moving to a new iPhone

In Settings › Privacy & data, tap Create encrypted backup to make a password-protected backup file, save it somewhere safe (for example Files), and use Restore from backup… on the new iPhone. Keep the password — it can’t be recovered.

Deleting your data

Delete individual drives from their detail screen, set old routes to delete automatically, or erase everything in Settings › Privacy & data. Deleting the app also deletes its data.
