Wayledger

Privacy Policy

Effective: October 15, 2026

Summary: Wayledger keeps your location history and every other record on your iPhone. The developer runs no servers, collects no data, and cannot see your trips.

What Wayledger stores, and where

Wayledger records the route, times and distance of your drives, the classifications, notes, purposes, vehicles, places, parking and tolls you enter, and the reports you create. All of it is stored only on your iPhone, protected by iOS Data Protection. It is not uploaded to the developer or to any third party, and no account is required.

Location and motion

With your permission, Wayledger uses Location Services (including in the background, if you allow "Always") to detect and record drives, and Motion & Fitness activity to tell drives from walks. This is used only for mileage tracking. You can change or withdraw these permissions at any time in iOS Settings; you can also pause tracking in the app.

Apple services (optional)

If you turn on "Look up street addresses", the start and end coordinates of each drive are sent to Apple Maps to look up an address. When "Show maps" is on, map images for the area being shown are loaded from Apple Maps. These requests go directly to Apple and are covered by Apple's privacy policy. Both are optional and can be turned off in Settings › Privacy & data; with both off, the app makes no network requests containing your location.

IRS rate updates

To stay current with the IRS business mileage rate, Wayledger downloads the public rate list from the Wayledger website (hosted on GitHub Pages) about once a day. The request contains nothing about you or your drives; like any website, the host may briefly log the network address that requested the file. You can turn this off in Settings › Mileage rate.

Missed-drive check

To notice drives it didn't record, Wayledger keeps the last place your iPhone was known to be while not driving (one coarse location and time) and the few possible missed drives it found. These stay on your iPhone, are never sent anywhere, and are replaced as new readings arrive; dismissing or adding a suggestion removes it.

Working hours (optional)

If you turn on Working hours, Wayledger logs each new drive as Work or Personal based on when it started. This happens on your iPhone; you can change any drive afterward.

Smart features (optional)

"Ask your mileage" and "Smart rules" understand plain-English wording using a built-in parser on your iPhone. If you turn on "Use Apple Intelligence" in Settings › Privacy & data, Apple's on-device language model also helps read your wording. It runs entirely on your iPhone: your question is not sent to the developer or to any server, and every number you see is calculated by Wayledger from your own records. Rules only suggest a classification; they never change a drive without your confirmation. If you turn on "Show drives in Spotlight and Siri", the destination, date, distance and classification of your drives are added to the on-device Spotlight index so you can search them; turning it off removes them.

Sharing

Wayledger never shares or sells your data and contains no advertising, analytics or tracking. Data leaves your iPhone only when you choose to send it: for example, emailing or sharing a report, exporting a file, or creating a backup. Reports and exports contain the places and times of your drives; once you send them, they are handled by the service or person you send them to.

Retention and deletion

Data stays on your iPhone until you delete it. You can delete individual trips, set detailed routes to be deleted automatically after 30 days, 90 days or 1 year, or erase everything in Settings › Privacy & data. Deleting the app also deletes its data. Backups you create are encrypted with your password and stored wherever you save them; the developer cannot access or recover them.

Children

Wayledger is not directed to children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published with the app and on this page.
